A great bakery in Chinatown, Las Vegas!

I was having lunch at a Vietnamese restaurant across the street from the Crown Bakery, when I first noticed this place.  What drew my attention was the steady flow of customers that were popping into the Crown Bakery.  A small group of people were sipping on tea and coffee while leaning on the balcony rail and they were having a conversation.  I thought, by the looks of this place, the Crown Bakery is a place that I must check out sometime soon.
The Crown Bakery is located at 4355 Spring Mountain Road.  The bakery is located on the second floor of the plaza building and there is elevator access.  Kaya Sushi is located in the same building and their sign is easy to see from the road.  The Crown Bakery is located a short distance from the Las Vegas Strip.
Visitors of Las Vegas may find the Crown Bakery to be an interesting place for one special reason.  The Crown Bakery creates fantastic classic wedding cakes and modern wedding cakes!  Yes, Las Vegas is the wedding capitol of the world and the month of December draws many couples who are planning to tie the knot.
Friends of mine got married this week in Las Vegas and they said that thousands of weddings were scheduled for the day that they got married.  The special date just happened to be 12-12-12 on the calendar.  The date 12-12-12 happens once every 100 years, so it is a special day of sorts.
Another special day that has thousands of wedding scheduled is 12-21-12.  That date is the end of the world, according to those in the media that mistakenly translated the Mayan calendar as stating that such a thing would happen that day.  Mayan wisdom keepers say that the calendar actually states that a new age will be starting that day and the end of the world hype was falsely created by the American news media.  Where there is hype, attention is drawn.  The date 12-21-12 has turned into a big day for couples to get married and it is another big party day in Las Vegas!
Many people only picture French bakeries when thinking of fine pastries and cakes.  The French are actually late comers in the game of baking and pastry arts.  Turkey and Persia have a long history of baking pastries.  China has been making fine pastries for thousands of years.  Some of the most elaborate and expertly crafted wedding cakes made are created by Chinese pastry chefs for weddings in asia.
Asian weddings can be huge events where no expense is spared.  Multi tiered tall classic white wedding cakes are usually the choice for the centerpiece at asian weddings.  I have seen some elegant asian wedding processions in Las Vegas, that many people could only dream of.  One asian wedding that I saw here in Vegas had a long parade procession with strolling musicians wearing empirical silk gowns playing traditional wedding songs.  Every member of the wedding wore tuxedos and gowns.  There must have been over 1,000 people in the wedding procession!
Take it from me. The Crown Bakery makes great wedding cakes!  Just like the wedding event needs to be planned, so does the wedding cake.  English is spoken at the Crown Bakery, so working over the details of an elaborate wedding cake is easy.
The Crown Bakery offers many styles of gourmet cakes, bread, cookies and pastries.  Like many asian bakeries, some of the bread and pastries are made to look like lucky symbol shapes.  Horseshoe shaped bread or cookies will certainly bring good luck!
I purchased a stack of very thin almond crisp cookies as a holiday gift.  I have not seen this style of almond cookie in many years.  These delicate almond cookies were about 1/8" thick and about 6" wide.  It takes great skill just to package this style of cookie.
All of the pastries, bread and cookies at the Crown Bakery are individually packaged and sealed in plastic wrap.  I have noticed that most asian bakeries seal their offerings in plastic packaging and that is not a bad idea.  Customers tend to handle baked items that are on display and plastic packaging keeps any possibility of germs being spread to a minimum.  It also minimizes damage to the products.
The cakes in the display case looked great, as you can see in the photographs above.  Individual portions were on display and for sale too.  One display case was full of specialty desserts.  Many bakeries only offer gourmet cupcakes for individual portion items these days.  The Crown Bakery had a few cupcake creations on display, but cupcakes were not the only small dessert item that they offered.  Custards, tarts and creative classic desserts were up for sale.
Tiramisu in Chinatown, Las Vegas?  I was pleasantly surprised to see a few different modern tiramisu creations offered at the Crown Bakery.  The classic tiramisu with a modern presentation looked very nice, but the modern green tea tiramisu caught my eye!  Green tea tiramisu.  Yum!  I never thought of using green tea instead of expresso when making tiramisu.  Green tea is the perfect flavor for tiramisu, because the flavor is so gentle.  The flavor of the ladyfingers and mascarpone becomes more noticeable in a green tea tiramisu.  I really liked the green tea tiramisu and I thought the modern presentation was very nice!  I also liked how the dessert was classically served on a gold dessert doily and a silver platter.  That is classy!
Coffee or tea is offered at the Crown Bakery.  The Crown Bakery is also a popular coffee cafe.  Sitting at a table while eating desserts and pastries that are served on sliver and gold, while sipping on tea or coffee is civilized life at its best.  The Crown Bakery offers a classy nice old fashioned atmosphere for a social cup of tea.  The Crown Bakery has a far more pleasant atmosphere than the loud impersonal national chain coffee shops, where freaky people sit and do nothing but text on their phones.
I highly recommend the Crown Bakery for visitors of Las Vegas and locals!  Wedding cakes, gourmet cakes and pastries are not the only baked goods that you will find there.  The Crown Bakery offers nice desserts, coffee, tea and a charming pleasant atmosphere!  Yum!  ...  Shawna
