Zen - Japanese Curry and Toppings!
Zen is a trendy modern Japanese restaurant that is located at 5020 Spring Mountain Road in Chinatown, Las Vegas.  Just look for Big Wong and you will find Zen!  Ha Ha Ha!  Big Wong is the name of a noodle restaurant that is in the same plaza.  In fact, there are a few restaurants in this plaza that offer very reasonable prices for menu items.  A person can have one appetizer, entree or dessert course at the three restaurants in the plaza and probably spend less than $12!  Sometimes the pieces fall together as far as plazas that have cheap eats go and restaurant hopping for cheap eats can become an evening of entertainment.       Zen features Japanese curry.  Japanese curry is a very refined, well crafted garam masala style curry sauce.  Japanese curry has a vegetable base masala and the sauce is finely pureed.  Zen offers many items on the menu that are meant to accompany the Japanese curry sauce.  Pork, noodles, rice and other items are some of the usual Japanese curry items, that most people would expect to see.       When I noticed the Japanese curry hot dog on the menu, I could not resist!  It sounded like the makings for a great Japanese street food style lunch!  The Japanese curry hot dog was topped with onions and slathered with Japanese curry.  The flavor combination was remarkably good tasting!  A hot dog menu item at a Japanese restaurant named Zen is not exactly what most people would expect to see, but gourmet hot dog creations are popular worldwide these days.  The Japanese curry hot dog at Zen was definitely on the gourmet end of the hot dog spectrum.  The tasty Japanese curry sauce made this hot dog irresistibly good tasting!     Coffee jello is not exactly a new item.  Coffee jello was a short lived trendy food fad that came about and then disappeared in the late 1970's.  The coffee jello at Zen was served in sweetened cream and it was kind of like eating a cup of chunky coffee.  Chunky coffee?  Why not!  Coffee jello is a low key name for this dessert item and it costs a little bit more than $1 on the Zen menu.  A trendy restaurant on the Las Vegas Strip would call coffee jello by the name of molecular coffee and they would probably charge a high dollar.  Coffee jello is another item that people would not expect to see on a Japanese curry house menu.  I really liked the coffee jello at Zen!     The Zen Japanese Curry Restaurant does not advertise heavily, but they do have many regular customers.  Zen is a modern Japanese trendy street food style restaurant that is like those snack shops that can be found in Japanese train stations and airports.       A reader of my food blog with entrepreneurial savvy would be quick to realize the potential that a restaurant like Zen would have, if its location was in an airport or on the Las Vegas Strip.  People do visit Las Vegas with the sole intention of buying or investing in new trendy franchise chain restaurants.  Las Vegas is like a testing ground for modern restaurant ideas.  If it is new and it becomes popular in Las Vegas, then the chances are that the restaurant theme will become popular in other trendy locations around the world.  Zen has potential!  Best of all, Zen has good old fashioned cheap food prices for their modern trendy food and that is a plus during poor economic times.       I highly recommend Zen - Japanese Curry and Toppings for visitors of Las Vegas and locals alike!  I highly suggest ordering a few Japanese curry dogs for an evening of gourmet hot dog munching!  Yum!  ...  Shawna
