A slice of the pie!
While making the rounds the other day, that hungry feeling crept up in the afternoon. I happened to be at a plaza checking on a site for school externship. The plaza was loaded with small trendy restaurants and cafes. I figured this plaza was a good choice for a late afternoon light lunch. There were many cuisines to choose from at the plaza, but there was one restaurant that offered my favorite late afternoon lunch. A good slice of east coast style pizza! People from New York City and Philadelphia know what east coast style pizzerias are all about. A good local pizzeria is a prized business in a neighborhood. Small local Italian pizzerias are all about quality! The same goes for Boston. When people in America talk about pizza, it seems like only two cities come up in the conversation. Chicago and New York. Neither city seems to care much for the other city's style of pizza. Sometimes a third person in the conversation will say "What about Philly pizza or Jersey Shore pizza?" New Yorkers usually say "Its not bad!" Just forget about what Chicago pizza heads say! Boston seems to fly under the radar, when pizza conversations and arguments are going on between New Yorkers and people from Chicago. Boston is a great pizza town! There is a large community of Italians in Boston, so naturally great Italian food can easily be found. Some of the best pizzeria pizza that I have ever had was cooked by pizza chefs from Boston. Upper Crust Pizza is a Boston style pizzeria! The pizza is east coast style thin crust. The pizza is finished on the stone slab. When the cook finishes cooking the pizza at Upper Crust Pizza, he does not wait for a coworker to call the customer over to pick up their pizza. The pizza chef at Upper Crust Pizza carries the fresh hot pizza that just came out of the oven directly to the customer! This is the way things are done in Boston pizzerias! A pizza that sits for a minute loses aroma. Customers love the aroma of pizza that just came out of the oven! Good hot fresh pizza aroma can put a smile on anybody's face! It sure put a smile on my face, because I appreciate when cooks and employees give that extra little bit of effort that counts. Especially when serving pizza! The slice of pepperoni at Upper Crust Pizza was great! The sauce was great. The crust had the texture I like and it was browned on the hot stone slab in the oven. The cheese was of a nice quality and it was not over cooked. The pepperoni was nice and there was plenty of it on the pizza. This was a nicely crafted old school east coast pizza, Boston style! Upper Crust Pizza also offers antipasti, pasta, calzones and subs. Fried dough, tiramisu and cannoli is on the dessert board. Garlic knots are offered as an appetizer. One of the cooks that I talked with at Upper Crust Pizza said that the lasagna was the best in town. When a cook at a pizzeria says something like that, it pays to listen! The lasagna on the menu at Upper Crust Pizza is a Lasagna Bolognese! I like sugo di carne in a lasagna, but bolognese sauce in a lasagna is really something special. The lasagna sounded good and I'll give it a try it when I am back in the Summerlin neighborhood. Upper Crust Pizza is located at 1910 Village Center Circle on the west side of Las Vegas in the Summerlin neighborhood. Going northbound on Town Center Drive, just north of Summerlin Parkway, Village Center Circle can be found. Village center circle is a big plaza style shopping area and Upper Crust Pizza is on the north sided of the circle. Circle plazas can be confusing, but the pizzeria's sign can be seen from the road. I highly recommend Upper Crust Pizza for locals! I also recommend Upper Crust Pizza for visitors of Las Vegas that stay at the west side casino resorts or are in Summerlin hitting the links on one of the championship golf courses. Upper Crust Pizza is the place to go for east coast pizza that is done right. Boston style pizza! Yum! ... Shawna
